I will only send you my newsletter if you have expressly given me permission to do so, either opting in via a form on my website (www.jackiemccarthy.com), by way of a written collection method (such as a form at conferences or book signings) or in person.

My website uses cookies to ensure optimal browsing speeds, to use less of your browsing data and to help combat spam. You can opt-out of allowing cookies within your browser, at any time. For instructions on how to do so, please click here.

These cookies may also be used by third parties. For more information on the third parties that I use, please see the full privacy policy below. All third parties are, to the best of my knowledge, GDPR-compliant, as well as being compliant with the Australian Privacy Act.

What personal data do we collect and why do we collect it?

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have a WordPress.com account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Some third-party software will make use of cookies, and third-parties such as Google Analytics may also record additional information, such as your IP address. A full list of current third parties is listed in the “third parties” section below.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Contact Information

We collect your contact details, such as name and email address, for the purposes of sending you our newsletter. We will only send you emails if you have opted-in and this is for the purpose of updating you with news, blog posts and publishing progress. You are welcome to opt-out at any time using the ‘unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of the email, by emailing me directly at info@jackiemccarthy.com or by sending written instructions to Jackie McCarthy at Level 10/201 Elizabeth Street, Sydney, NSW 2000 AUSTRALIA

Who we share your data with

We will never share your data without your consent, except for purposes outlined in the “third parties” section below, or if it is required by law.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on WordPress.com (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

For some third-party software, such as Google Analytics, your data may be retained until you advise us that you no longer wish for your data to be retained.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Other forms of data, such as your name and email, may be collected via third-party software or “plugins” on our site. For example, this website may generate a form that you use to fill in your name and email address, which is then transferred to another third-party, such as ConvertKit. This is for the express purpose of sending you email newsletters and updates, which you have opted into on our site (www.jackiemccarthy.com).

You are welcome to opt-out of these newsletters at any time, and, if you wish, request that your data will be deleted from these third-parties, except where it is required to remain on file, for the purposes of not sending you further emails (such as an ‘unsubscribe’ list), or to continue to provide goods and services to you.

Which third parties do we use?

From time to time, we use third-party software to enable the running of our business and to contact you. These third parties are, to the best of our knowledge, GDPR-compliant and have their own privacy policies in place, to protect your data. A current list of these third-party companies is WordPress.com, Jetpack, Google Analytics, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, MailChimp, SumoMe and ConvertKit. Other third parties may be added or retired from time to time, as the business need arises, and as technology evolves. If you are unsure of the third parties that currently have access to your data, or are concerned about the types of data these third parties hold, please email info@jackiemccarthy.com or write to Jackie McCarthy at Level 10/201 Elizabeth Street, Sydney, NSW 2000 AUSTRALIA.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

Currently, there is no automated decision making and/or profiling of user data.

What ‘sensitive data’ do you hold on users

We do not collect ‘sensitive data.’

Sensitive data is data consisting of racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, genetic data, biometric data, data concerning health or data concerning a person’s sex life or sexual orientation.

What data breach procedures we have in place

If you believe there has been a data breach, please email info@jackiemccarthy.com as soon as you become aware of this breach, or write to Level 10/201 Elizabeth Street, SYDNEY NSW 2000 AUSTRALIA.

Our contact information

If you wish to enquire about any aspect of this privacy policy, or to request a copy of the data we hold on you, please email info@jackiemccarthy.com, or write to Jackie McCarthy at Level 10/201 Elizabeth Street, Sydney, NSW 2000 AUSTRALIA. Please note there may be an administration fee payable for some data extraction, to cover costs incurred.
